Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. several folks involved in petitioning and the Petition Committee, led by Sam Baker, met with the Madeira Beach City Clerk, Aimee Servidio to present to her all the signed and notarized Petitions for Referendum.
The Purpose of the Petition
The purpose, from a statement by Sam Baker, is to slow down or stop the two developments that threaten our small town character.
A petition, as specified in the Madeira Beach city charter document, requires the Board of Commissioners of Madeira Beach to set aside (repeal) Ordinance 2014-08 which has added the PD, Planned Development zone, to the districts allowed in the city. PD means unlimited development.
If the Board of Commissioners do not repeal the ordinance, then the ordinance that is the subject of this petition, will be placed on the ballot at the next election.
The reason that registered voters would want to sign the petition is to ensure that the ordinance for the Planned Development goes on the ballot – so all resident voters may vote – Up or Down.
